CrossCountry introduces timetable amendments between Birmingham and Stansted Airport in response to staff absence due to the Omicron variant and lower passenger numbers as people work from home. Passengers asked to check before they travel.
From 17 January, CrossCountry will introduce changes to train services between Birmingham and Stansted Airport, asking passengers to check before they travel.
Customers are advised to check the CrossCountry website before travelling as only a limited service will be running between Cambridge and Stansted Airport.
In the run up to Christmas, CrossCountry prioritised running as many services as possible to support the holiday getaway. Now fewer people have been travelling due to the spread of the Omicron variant and the government’s advice to work from home. As a result, the company is introducing changes between Birmingham and Stansted Airport so that passengers on the busier services between Birmingham and Cambridge can travel with confidence.
Richard Morris, Regional Director for the East Midlands and East Anglia said: “We have amended the timetable to match the number of trains running with the number of passengers travelling. These changes will help us provide a more reliable service between Birmingham and Cambridge, where we know there is greater passenger demand. We advise that customers check online before travelling or sign up for automatic alerts from National Rail Alert Me.”
Customers can also take advantage of the ‘Book with Confidence’ scheme which means passengers can change their travel plans up to the evening before departure at no extra cost, or they can cancel their journey and receive a refund.
Full information will be available on the CrossCountry website.
