CrossCountry has confirmed their proposed special timetable for Thursday 18 August and Saturday 20 August due to planned strike action by the RMT (The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers). The TSSA (Transport Salaried Staffs' Association) union has also decided to take strike action on these days.
The action will take place across 15 train operating companies, including CrossCountry and Network Rail, resulting in significant disruption across the network.
This is compounded by HS2 improvement engineering works taking place this week to connect the future HS2 route to the national rail network.
As a result, the number of CrossCountry train services being run will be limited, both on the strike day and those days either side of the strike days.
There may be last minute alterations and cancellations, so passengers are advised to only travel if their journey is essential and to check the CrossCountry website before travelling.
Tom Joyner, Managing Director at CrossCountry said: “The latest round of action will cause yet more misery and disruption at a time when we should be rebuilding confidence in train travel. This will of course, cause unnecessary disruption to thousands of people and we are sorry for the inconvenience this will cause. We are working with industry partners to offer the best service possible despite the actions of the RMT. We remain open to speaking with union colleagues to reach a compromise. However, if the strike goes ahead it will cause significant disruption.
“We strongly advise passengers to avoid travelling by rail wherever possible during this time and make alternative arrangements. If travel by train is essential, we urge customers to allow significant extra time and check their journey details in advance.”
