Explore The Eden Project

Discover the connection between plants and people as you explore one of the UK’s top visitor attractions. The Eden Project is full of beautiful plants and fascinating facts, perfect for the whole family to enjoy. Wind your way through the network of paths and discover flora and fauna from around the globe in the project’s igloo-like Biomes. Dedicated children’s areas and special events mean the whole family will be kept entertained on a fun-filled day out.

Taking a train to the Eden Project is easy when you travel with CrossCountry. From St Austell Station, it’s a short bus ride to the first-class attraction, so book your ticket and read on to discover the wonders that await.

The Biomes

As one of the world’s largest indoor rainforests, the Rainforest Biome is definitely not to be missed while visiting the Eden Project. Feel the tropical heat hit you (temperatures reach 32 °C!) as you discover four of the different rainforest environments. You will find exotic plants - rubber plants, giant bamboo, bananas, cocoa and coffee plants – as well as waterfalls and a canopy walkway taking you up into the tree tops.

The Baobab Bar is a great pit stop on your way round the Biome. Kids will love the Baobab Smoothie, which combines a delicious blend of coconut milk, banana and nutritious baobab powder from Africa’s iconic trees. Adults can treat themselves to something a little stronger, like one of the bar’s baobab rum cocktails!

Plus, keep your eyes peeled for the shy roul-roul partridges that scurry around the Rainforest Biome...

Next door in the Mediterranean Biome, things are slightly cooler, with different sections presenting the plants and landscapes found in the warm temperate regions around the Mediterranean, South Africa and California. The climate in these regions mean the areas are known for superb fruits, fine wines and good crops. You’ll find grape vines, olive and lemon trees, cacti and date palms, as well as sprouting Aloe Vera plants.

Don’t miss the perfume garden, a courtyard-like space, filled with ever-changing aromas from the blooms of the season.

The Gardens

The project’s gardens are brimming with plants, sculptures and play equipment to keep the whole family occupied all day long. With miles of path to explore offering you breath-taking views of the Biomes, you can discover nearly four acres of gardens and landscapes featuring everything from ornamental flowers to crops used for medicine, fuels, materials and food.

You can teach your kids about what we can all do to support the environment with Eden itself designed to minimise environmental impact.

  • There are plenty of recycling bins around the site
  • Food waste is composted
  • Rainwater is used for everything other than cooking and washing your hands

There are also fascinating displays which teach kids about bees and electrical waste in the form of fun giant sculptures which are sure to catch the kids’ attention.

Adrenaline Pumping Activities

It’s not all about plants either; the Eden Project has a brilliant range of adventure activities, perfect for thrill seekers and adrenaline junkies. It's home to England's longest and fastest zip wire covering 660 metres, allowing you to reach speeds of up to 60mph. You can even plummet 65ft over a cliff edge in a giant swing, or leap from a 12-metre platform in a free-fall jump.

  • The Nest climbing frame appeals to younger children, with plenty of space for clambering as well as running about, while parents enjoy a rest on the grass
  • A space-themed soft play area can be found in the Visitor Centre, where under-fives can enjoy playing amongst rockets and space characters and even dressing up

Don’t miss the environmental education centre in the Core building and check out what’s on the outdoor stage. Here you’ll find the Eden Sessions music concerts each summer – this year’s entertainers include Gary Barlow and Ben Howard
