Responsible for safety, security and environmental policy, Des joins CrossCountry from Merseyrail where he was currently Safety and Assurance Director. Prior to joining Merseyrail he was Head of Safety at TransPennine Express for five years where he oversaw the safety validation of their new Class 185 trains and implemented their Security Plan and Safety ManagementSystems.
A safety and engineering professional of over 30 years, Des began his career as an apprentice at British Rail in 1979 and held several roles across the rail industry before joining Merseyrail in 2011.
Des is married, lives in the Manchester area and enjoys outdoor activities including walking and hiking.
