Come and see an exhibition that delves more deeply into Plymouth's portrait collection and presents new research into some of the characters that are new or rarely seen.
'In the Frame' features some of the City Museum and Art Gallery's newest additions to the permanent art collection, including an early self-portrait by Plympton-born 18th century artist, Sir Joshua Reynolds.
The painting is one of the Museum's most significant acquisitions and shows Reynolds as a young man in his early 20s, just as he was establishing his career.
This is set amongst other paintings of artists including self-portraits by James Northcote, John Collier and Edward Opie.
You can also come face to face with some of Plymouth's maritime greats - from Hawkins and Raleigh to 18th century Admirals and George Gibbon, the Lieutenant Governor of Plymouth in the early 1700s, painted by Thomas Hudson.
Important local faces and families feature too - from the Edgcumbes of Cothele and the Eliots of St. Germans, to William Cookworthy (the founder of the Plymouth Porcelain factory) and the last town crier of Devonport.
