There are regular bus services that take passengers from the station into the city and beyond. The city is part of the PlusBus scheme, that gives passengers unlimited travel on services in a set area if the ticket is purchased at the same time as a rail ticket. There is also a taxi rank adjacent to the station for those who prefer to travel onward by cab.
Reading has a variety of great options when it comes to shopping. The Oracle in the city centre is a bright modern shopping centre with many shops, including department stores, so you’re sure to find some of your favourite brands here. The building also houses an amazing selection of riverside restaurants giving you the chance to enjoy a bite to eat with views over the river Kennet. The town centre is compact, meaning that you will be able to enjoy all the independent shops and household name brands.
Although the city is best known for its summer music festival, there is also a fringe festival in July, a children’s festival in May and more exciting events happening throughout the year. As you would expect, there’s a great deal of music happening throughout the city whatever time of year it is. However, the city also prides itself on its amazing history, which can be seen at the beautiful architecture, the charming Reading Abbey, and the fascinating Reading Prison, where Oscar Wilde was held in the nineteenth century.
