What is a Veterans Railcard?
If you are a Veteran, you could benefit from great savings on many train tickets with a Veterans Railcard. This will give you 1/3 off rail fares on journeys across the UK. So if you want to go for a weekend by the seaside or visit many well-known UK destinations, this Railcard is for you.
Who is it for?
A Veterans Railcard is for anyone who has served a minimum of one day in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces (Regular or Reserve) or Merchant Mariners and seen duty on legally defined military operations. You will need to provide evidence of your eligibility at the time of purchase, more detail on this is within the sections below.
How much does a Veterans Railcard cost?

- Available as a 3-year product for £70
How can I get the Veterans Railcard?
There are two ways to purchase your Veterans Railcard:
1. Online
You will need the following to be able to apply for your Veterans Railcard online, these are:

- Evidence of your eligibility as a Veteran. More information can be found here.
- A good quality digital passport style photo which you have ready to upload
- A debit or credit card
2. By post
Alternatively, if you did not want to apply for your Veterans Railcard online, you can do this in three easy steps:
- Download & complete your application form, this can be found at veterans-railcard.co.uk
- Send a photocopy of your evidence of eligibility as a Veteran. More information can be found here.
- Have a passport style photo ready of yourself & your named companion (if applicable)

What happens next?
Whether you apply for your Veterans Railcard online or via a postal application, this product is available digitally (fulfilled on the ‘Railcard’ app on iOS and Android services), or as a physical card that is posted to you.
Digital Railcard: if you opt for a digital Railcard, you’ll be sent a download code once your application has been approved (which can take up to 5 working days) and once you download the Railcard app and upload the card onto your phone, you can start using it straight away.
Physical Railcard: your Railcard will usually be dispatched within one working day of it being approved (which can take up to five working days), but it’s probably best to allow up to five working days for your Railcard to arrive. It’ll be sent out free of charge by First Class post, but if you prefer, you have the option to pay for Special Delivery.
You’ll need to have your Railcard with you to be able to get a discount on your rail ticket, so be sure to leave enough time before your journey for the Railcard to reach you.
Where and when can I use this Railcard?
The Veterans Railcard gets you a 1/3 off Standard, First Class Anytime, Off-Peak, Super Off-Peak and Advance Fares across the UK. You will be able to specify a named companion at the time of purchasing this Railcard, they will also receive a 1/3 off, but only when travelling with you.
